Instead of preparing for the New Year's Day clash with the Western Sydney Wanderers, playmaker Hernandez flew from Sydney back to Wellington on Tuesday after X-rays revealed a fractured scaphoid bone in his left wrist.
"I wanted to play but the physio said it was too dangerous," Hernandez said in a statement.
"If I did any more damage to it I could be out for a lot longer,Billige Air Max.
"It is really disappointing because we have had two wins and the team has been playing very well,Nike Free Run."
Hernandez, who is bidding for a spot in the Costa Rica team for the World Cup, is to have surgery in the next couple of days and is expected to miss the national team's friendly games against Chile and Korea at the end of January.

Phoenix coach Ernie Merrick said the injury came out of an innocuous challenge during Friday's 1-0 win over Melbourne Heart, just their second win of the season.
"Carlos fell on his wrist and twisted it at the same time,Nike Air Max," Merrick said.
Merrick said the injury meant changing a combination that had won the last two games, but he was confident he had the players to fill Hernandez No. 10 role.
"I'll make a decision about who will do that job on match day,Billige Nike Shox," he said.
"Make no mistake we are going for a win, nothing less."
Belgian forward Stein Huysegems, scorer of the Phoenix's winning goals in the last two games,Billige Nike Free, is set to start against the Wanderers at Pirtek Stadium after showing no signs of his hamstring strain in a final training session.
But Merrick will make a decision on the fitness of Louis Fenton on Wednesday morning, after he dislocated his right shoulder in Friday's match.
