The NFL Players Association has signed off on a protocol for a human growth hormone population study. It would allow blood to be drawn from players to facilitate the study before the start of the regular season,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], . It still must get league approval.

The study is designed to establish a baseline HGH level in the body of an athlete. The players’ union and the NFL are expected to combine to appoint a team of doctors who would conduct the study.

,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], there is not an agreement on when the testing would start. The league wants a “comprehensive agreement” on the entire drug policy before the population study begins. The players’ union is open to starting the process of collecting blood samples sooner.
The NFLPA also wants to ensure that the blood used in the study would only be used in the population study and would not later be retested once an agreement on testing and punishment is in place,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
The NFL,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Fox reports,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], does not believe vigorous testing for HGH is necessary. However,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], this could be a step in that direction. Still, there would be major hurdles to clear, such as what the regular testing would entail and what the punishment would be for violators. There is also the matter of implementing an appeals process, Fox reports.
According to NFL.com, the NFL and the NFLPA have also agreed to discuss stronger sanctions for DUI offenses.
